The great white shark swims on. Her tail sways side-to-side; her fins keep her balanced. She travels the fast lane where she can, cruising invisible seaways
In Great White Shark we follow a female shark on her way to warmer waters to give her pups the best chance of survival. Set in a stunning underwater world, Claire Saxby's signature poetic prose and Cindy Lane's sublime illustrations showcase the grace, majesty and power of one of the ocean’s top predators.
The CBCA judges say...
Lane’s illustrations certainly show the power and predatory nature of sharks but she also shows the maternal side of this huge creature such as when we see the mother shark surrounded by her new pups. There is a strong sense of design, such as seeing the shark just under the surface of the water. Lane provides many perspectives from cross-section to birds-eye and uses shades of blue to show the increasing depths of the ocean. The wonderful endpapers illustrate the light shadowing across the advancing and retreating sharks at the beginning and ending of this book. Her ability to recreate the way light acts in water is extraordinary.
